Our experience for the world
More than 30 years of Wismut remediation have created a wealth of experience. Today, affected countries around the world that are confronted with the legacy of uranium ore mining can benefit from this.

International expertise
In the early 1990s, the still young Wismut GmbH benefited from the experience gained from uranium mine remediation in the USA, Canada and Australia. The company soon developed its own know-how, which the experts have since been taking out into the world and contributing their experience to projects financed by the EU, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Wismut GmbH also works together with other organizations such as the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit and the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources. Around 40 projects were carried out on four continents. These included the recording and evaluation of mining legacies, radiation protection, the development of monitoring systems and the conceptual development, planning and monitoring of remediation measures. Wismut GmbH has facilitated more than 40 study visits to the company on behalf of the IAEA and conducted numerous training courses in Germany and other countries.

Cooperations
Wismut GmbH works intensively with international organizations on a global level. This was a declared goal of the international Wismut Symposium 2023. As part of the mining symposium, the federal company declared its willingness to actively use its expertise to support the national raw materials strategy. A cooperation agreement with the Chilean copper producer CODELCO was already signed in June 2024. An agreement with the Czech state-owned company DIAMO has been in place for many years. In December 2024, Wismut GmbH and the US Department of Energy (DOE) signed a further cooperation agreement. The existing five-year cooperation agreement from 2020 was thus extended indefinitely.
